Windows 95/98 configurations.

Verify Your Dial-Up Networking Settings.
  1. Double-click the My Computer icon.
  2. Double-click the Dial-Up Networking icon.
  3. Click once on the connection icon you wish to change, and from the File menu, choose Properties.
  4. In the Phone Number text box, type your local dial-up access number. Remember to check with your local telephone company to make sure that the number you choose is a local toll-free call.
  5. Click on Server Types. Only options you want check are Enable Software Compression and TCP/IP. If either of these is not check please check them and also uncheck anything else.
  6. Click on TCP/IP Settings. You should have Server Assigned IP Address dotted along with Server Assigned Name Server Addresses. There should also be a check in both Use IP Header Compression and Use Default Gateway on Remote Networks.
  7. Once these settings have been verified click OK on all screens that where opened.

Verify Your Network Protocols.

  1. Click on Start go to Settings and click on Control Panel.
  2. Scroll down and double click on Network.
  3. In the box labeled The Following Network Protocols are Installed you should have the following.
    a. Client For Microsoft Networks
    b. Dial-Up Adapter
    c. TCP/IP
  4. If any of these is missing install them by following the directions below.

 

Installing Network Protocols. In order to install these protocols you will need your windows installation CD. Please make sure you have this handy before proceeding.

Add Client for Microsoft Networks

  1. Click the Add button.
  2. Select Client.
  3. Click the Add button.
  4. From the Manufacturers: list, select Microsoft.
  5. From the Network Clients: list, select Client for Microsoft Networks.
  6. Click the OK button.

Add a Dial-up Adapter

  1. Click the Start button point to Settings and choose Control Panel.
  2. Click the Network icon.
  3. Select the Configuration tab.
  4. Click the Add button.
  5. Select Adapter.
  6. Click the Add button.
  7. From the Manufactures: list, choose Microsoft.
  8. From the Network Adapters: list, choose Dial-up Adapter.
  9. Click the OK button.

Add TCP/IP

  1. Click the Start button point to Settings and choose Control Panel.
  2. Click the Network icon.
  3. Select the Configuration tab.
  4. Click the Add button.
  5. Select Protocol.
  6. Click the Add button.
  7. From the Manufactures: list, choose Microsoft.
  8. From the Network Protocol: list, choose TCP/IP.
  9. Click the OK button.
